NEW WINE-August Monthly SCRIPT-TIME

HELLO AUGUST

LE family, we have reached August the 8th month!

Number 8 in Bible is a new beginning, hope, new horizons and bright future.

I for one am always excited to see this month as I know there is a new season in store for me, and as true to God I will be starting a new Job within a church, I have become a new member of a church and LE is about to take on a new project.

Now your NEW may look a whole lot different from mine,

as God knows where we are within our lives and within our walk with him.

Your NEW may be getting to know Jesus for yourself and experiencing His love all over you.

Your NEW may be starting a new relationship.

Your NEW may be ParentHood.

Your NEW may be giving to yourself with self-love and self-care.

It may be a NEW deepened spiritual level within the presence of the Holy Spirit within you.

Whatever your NEW is, you know you cannot take the OLD YOU with you, right? you need to make changes and be ready for that new environment, new husband, new wife, new life and so on.

This leads us nicely on to this months scripture…….

Scripture:

“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.”

((Luke 5:37-38, NIV)

Reflection:

What is your personal reflection of this passage? read the passage again slowly and hear what it is saying to you? Reflection: Fill this space with your thoughts…..for example:

If your not used to the bible this scrupture is was we call a Parable, I really love the parable’s that Jesus used. He used them to explain and teach lessons to His disciples, it gives a visual and provides an illustration that helps understanding.

Once you understand the meaing the you can apply this to life today and your new beginning….. Let’s look at the scripture again!

“And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine must be poured into new wineskins.”

((Luke 5:37-38, NIV)

Jesus here is saying that you can’t join the new to the old or you’ll ruin both the new wine and the old skin.

This is beacuse the gas pressure from the fermentation is eventually so great that the inflexible old skin ruptures, and the new wine gushes out onto the ground and is wasted.

Imagine you as a wine skin, can you use the same talk, attidue, thinking, behaviours, habits, in the new places you are going?

What results will this have?

will it cause ruptures, hurt yourself or others and waste opptunities?

Will your actions offend the Holy Spirit?

As you elevate ans step into this new season, you now know not to use old skins with new wine.

If your still, thinking no I don’t get it Kelleigh….Check this Parable out!

Jesus also told them this parable: ‘No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews it on an old one. If he does, he will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. 37

Here’s the same contrast of old and new that we see, IT IS ALL about the NEW garments and wine skins!

This can be quite scary as we lay the old life and old ways down, but we can have faith knowing it is what God wants us to do 🙂

Actions

What are your personal actions for this new season, what has God said to you personally through this scripture?

Whatever you need to do, do it!

Fill this space with your actions…eg.

We are imperfect so I am sure there is alot for us all to work on……..

Do you need to accept Jesus as your Lord and saviour ?

Do you need to put away bad habits?

Do you need have a postive mind set?

Do you need to let go things that prevent you from getting closer to God?
Do you need to put down not so good behaviours, may that be swearing, sex before marraige, druckeness ?

Where do you need to grow and change for new season ?

Prayer’s up

Send up your own personal prayer, remember prayer is the time when you talk to God, doesn’t have to be fancy 🙂 Prayer. If you are finding it difficult to pray you can say the prayer below to help you talk to God.

Dear Lord, thank you that you want to do a new thing in us and through us. Even if we often get into a rut in our lives, you haven’t given up on us.

Help us, gracious Lord, to be open to the new wineskins that will be able to contain the new wine. These new wineskins might involve moving, or a new job, or a new spiritual discipline, or all sorts of things.

Give us courage to consider what our new wineskins might be. You know how much we become attached to what is familiar, and how scary newness can be to us.

Help us to trust you more fully, so that we might be open to and eager for your new wine in our lives.

In Jesus Name Amen.

~ Romans 12:2

We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.
~ 1 John 5:18
No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God.

~ 1 John 3:9

Since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

And have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

~ Colossians 3:10

For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. 16 And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. 17 From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.
~ Galatians 6:13-18
